AqualiaMACE, a joint venture comprising Aqualia and the Emirate company MACE that presently manages and operates sewerage services in Al Ain and its area of influence in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, has recently received a distinction of merit at the British Safety Council's International Safety Awards.

The award was conferred in special recognition of Aqualia MACE's remarkably low accident rates in the project after logging over 6 million man-hours with no accidents resulting in loss of days. The recognition also praised the innovative campaigns incorporated such as the implementation of the preventive culture project or specific actions to improve road safety.

This award was the culmination of years of hard work to continuously improve Aqualia MACE's health & safety performance, which reached another milestone this past February after attaining its first OHSAS 18001 health and safety management certification.

The award was conferred by the British Safety Council, an organisation with member from over 60 countries and a track record of more than 60 years promoting proper occupational health and safety management. This recognition is an initiative that showcases the actions of organisations across the globe who have demonstrated a special commitment to protecting their workers against occupational hazards and diseases.

Earning recognitions of this sort is in line with the goals promoted from Aqualia's International Division to put the spotlight on the excellence achieved in health and safety performance for its activities, which the client (Abu Dhabi Sewerage Services Company) also highly appreciated in its most recent assessment, giving the company's health and safety management for the contract a score of Outstanding (9 out of 10 points).

Aqualia MACE, a joint venture comprising Aqualia and the Emirate company MACE, manages the sewer and water treatment systems in the eastern Abu Dhabi city of Al Ain that provides service to over 650,000 residents. This project represents the first contract ever awarded to a Spanish company in the United Arab Emirates and entails the operation and maintenance of a wastewater sewer network covering 2,400 kilometres, 68 wastewater pumping stations and 19 water treatment plants.
