Aqualia has been chosen "Best Company of the Year 2021" at the eighth edition of the iAgua Awards, the most prestigious awards in the water sector in Spain and Latin America. With this recognition, the company is the most representative entity in the sector for the third consecutive year. Aqualia has been ranked first for the fifth time: 2015, 2017, 2019, 2020 and now 2021.

Juan Pablo Merino, Aqualia’s Global Director of Communication and CSR received the award from Alejandro Maceira, founder of iAgua, at an event held this morning in Madrid. "Having social legitimacy is essential for any company to be sustainable in time. And the only way to obtain this legitimacy is by doing things well and, at the same time, communicating them well, both to stakeholders and to society in general", said Merino during his thank-you speech.

For the first time, the eighth edition of the iAgua Awards recognised "Equality, Diversity and Inclusion" in the companies of the sector, a recognition that also went to Aqualia.

The iAgua Awards ceremony was the culmination of the Quality Water Summit, an event that, from 25 to 29 April, dealt with the main current issues in the sector. Aqualia took part in three key moments: a session on green hydrogen as an alternative for the decarbonisation of our planet, with Frank Rogalla, Aqualia's Director of Innovation and Technology; a presentation on the digitalisation of water, with José Gabriel Lumbreras, Technical Director of Zone I of Aqualia; and a debate on the future of water management, which brought together Santiago Lafuente, Director of Spain, with other senior executives from Acciona, Gestagua and Canal de Isabel II. The panel analysed the situation of water quality in Spain, the challenges in management and technological advances and investment plans, focusing on the National Plan for Purification, Sanitation, Efficiency, Saving and Reuse (DSEAR) and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PERTE) for the Digitalisation of the Water Cycle.
