Climate Change Strategy

At Aqualia, we recognise that water is a source of life and wellbeing for both people and the planet. We are equally aware of its increasing vulnerability, driven by the growing impacts of climate change and water stress. We address this challenge with responsibility and commitment, translating our ambition into tangible actions built on decades of expertise in managing the urban water cycle.

In line with our commitment to climate action and in compliance with the EU Taxonomy, we have updated our assessment of physical climate risks. This analysis was carried out for each taxonomy-aligned activity using advanced climate projections to 2040 and 2060, based on IPCC scenarios, enabling us to evaluate the exposure and vulnerability of our activities to climate-related threats.

In addition, over recent years we have undertaken a significant evolution towards a more science-based, rigorous and internationally aligned approach to environmental management. To this end, we conducted a comprehensive assessment of nature-related risks and opportunities, applying the requirements of the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the LEAP methodology developed by the Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD). This assessment is enabling us to identify material ecosystem risks, critical dependencies and the specific environmental characteristics of each site. By adopting a systematic and consistent methodology across our operations, we gain a deeper understanding of the natural environments in which we operate, providing a robust foundation for more precise, forward-looking and data-driven environmental planning. Through this approach, Aqualia continues to strengthen its resilience, anticipate future challenges and contribute to the protection and restoration of natural capital, reinforcing its commitment to creating sustainable value for people, communities and the environment.
